Today was my first race on the Computer street crit course with the Gold Coast Goldstars. What a course! Very fast with flowing corners and a deceiving little hill into the finish line. The main event of the day was the Rhino Linings team crit series over 60mins. An impressive race from all involved with a large field and a very very quick race. Looked like an hour of pain from the sidelines.
***EDIT*** – I am still new to the race scene and therefore dont know many of you or your names. Here is a LINK to the results from the teams race. I’ll try and find someone to scribe a race report for me from the team series for round 2 or atleast get some details on place getters etc.
The support act for the day was for those of not lucky enough to be in the teams race (or is that lucky enough not to be?) was a standard crit over 40 mins. The juniors and E grade rolled out first with a good size field of juniors battling the cold weather. (it was 6 degrees at 7am!) followed by D and C grade rolled out with a combined A & B grade race for 40 minutes + 3 laps of fun. Reports tell me C grade averaged close to 38kph today! Congrats to Kerry Sutton for a close fought 2nd on a beautiful new set of wheels.
A & B grade combined was animated with a series of unsuccessful attacks that never really looked a threat of getting away and ended with a group sprint. Jackson Wardrop took a narrow win over Cabarita Beach Cycles owner Jeff Harris who had a blistering run to the finish and was unlucky not to get across the line. Jeff is racing the State masters road championships next weekend, good luck Jeff!
Bree from Breeze Designs came out with me again this morning and took some more great shots. Here is a selection for you with more to be added to the photography page later tonight.
